Day 1
Arrival in Clarens & Welcome to the Mountains
Your Clarens Camino adventure begins in the charming village of Clarens, nestled beneath the magnificent Maluti Mountains. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by your Camino host and introduced to the journey that lies ahead.
As part of your welcome pack, you will receive your personal Camino journal, a space reserved entirely for your thoughts, reflections, observations, and discoveries along the way. Keeping a journal throughout your Camino can be a deeply rewarding experience, capturing not only the physical journey but also the personal insights and moments of growth that often unfold on the trail. Long after your walk is complete, these pages will serve as a treasured keepsake of your time in the mountains.
You will make your way to the beautiful Oranje Guest Farm, a working farm situated in a spectacular valley between the Maluti Mountains and the iconic sandstone mountains of the Eastern Free State.
Your accommodation will be in charming cottages nestled at the foot of the mountain, offering sweeping views across the Clarens valley, rolling farmland, and surrounding mountain ranges.
As the afternoon light transforms the sandstone cliffs into shades of gold and amber, take time to unwind and embrace the tranquillity of your surroundings. The peaceful atmosphere, crisp mountain air, and breathtaking scenery provide the perfect introduction to the Clarens Camino experience. Surrounded by nature and far removed from the demands of daily life, this is an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 2
Oranje Guest Farm to Lesoba Guest Farm
Your adventure continues in the picturesque village of Clarens, nestled beneath the majestic Maluti Mountains. After a restful night, you will set off on a rewarding hike through the 800-hectare Clarens Nature Reserve, renowned for its breathtaking mountain scenery, diverse flora and fauna, and iconic sandstone formations.
As you journey deeper into the reserve, the trail winds through valleys, open grasslands, and beneath towering sandstone cliffs sculpted by nature over millions of years. The crisp mountain air carries the scent of wildflowers, while spectacular views unfold around every corner. Along the way, there will be opportunities to pause, reflect, and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the natural surroundings.
The route continues towards the famous Mushroom Rock, where Clarens’ distinctive sandstone formations create a landscape of caves, ravines, and hidden corners. This remarkable setting feels untouched by time, offering a true escape from the pace and demands of modern life.
After completing the day’s hike, you will be transferred to the beautiful Lesoba Guest Farm, nestled between Clarens and Fouriesburg in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains.
Surrounded by rolling grasslands, dramatic mountain vistas, and peaceful farm landscapes, Lesoba is the perfect place to unwind after a day on the trail.
Known for its warm hospitality and spectacular setting, the farm offers panoramic views stretching towards Lesotho, the Caledon Valley, and the surrounding mountain ranges. Your accommodation overlooks tranquil gardens and natural surroundings, where birdlife and wildlife often wander peacefully nearby. Take time to explore the grounds, stroll through the gardens, and soak up the serenity of this unique mountain retreat.
As evening falls, a delicious, hearty home-cooked dinner will be prepared for you.

Day 3
Day 3 – Lesoba Guest Farm to Barbett Guest Farm
Awake to the peaceful sounds of the countryside and enjoy breakfast before setting out on another memorable day of your Clarens Camino journey. Today’s route takes you deeper into the spectacular landscapes of the Eastern Free State, where wide-open plains, sandstone ridges, and dramatic mountain scenery create a constantly changing backdrop.
As you leave Lesoba behind, the trail meanders through working farmlands, open grasslands, and quiet country roads, offering endless opportunities to appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of this remarkable region. The route is rich in natural scenery, with panoramic views stretching across valleys and towards the towering Maluti Mountains. Along the way, you may encounter grazing livestock, abundant birdlife, and the peaceful rhythms of rural farm life.
At the end of the day’s hike, you will arrive at the beautiful Barbett Guest Farm, uniquely positioned in the neck of the mountains where towering sandstone cliffs and rolling hills embrace the property on all sides. This exceptional location offers a sense of seclusion and peace, with magnificent views that change throughout the day as the light moves across the mountains.

Day 4
Day 4 -Barbet to Thaba Lapeng
After breakfast, we depart Barbet and continue towards Sadiba.
The route offers a wonderful combination of open countryside, mountain views, and peaceful farm roads. As the Camino unfolds, many guests find this stage allows time for both personal reflection and meaningful conversations with fellow walkers.
The beauty of the Clarens region reveals itself around every corner, reminding us why this area has become one of South Africa’s most treasured walking destinations.

Thaba Lapeng Mountain Escape to Linwood Guest Farm
Today marks the final full day of your Clarens Camino journey. After breakfast, you will set out on a memorable hike through some of the most dramatic and beautiful landscapes of the Eastern Free State. The route takes you through open grasslands, mountain foothills, and beneath towering sandstone formations that have shaped this region for millions of years.
One of the highlights of today’s walk is passing beneath the famous sandstone overhang at Linwood, an awe-inspiring natural feature that showcases the scale and beauty of the surrounding mountains. Walking beneath these towering cliffs provides a humbling reminder of nature’s grandeur and creates a perfect opportunity to pause, reflect, and appreciate the journey that has brought you here.
As you approach Linwood Guest Farm, magnificent views stretch across the valleys and mountains, providing a fitting finale to your Camino adventure. The route allows time to absorb the peace and beauty of the landscape while reflecting on the experiences, challenges, and achievements of the past few days.
Your final evening will be spent at the beautiful Linwood Guest Farm, where comfort, hospitality, and spectacular mountain scenery combine to create a truly special experience. Nestled beneath the mountains and surrounded by breathtaking views, Linwood offers the perfect setting for your final night on the Camino.
