Khanya Big Five Kruger Walking Safari

Where the Bush Feels Like Home

In the heart of the Balule North Reserve, Khanya Safari Lodge captures the essence of a true African safari, simple, untamed, and deeply connected to the land. Nestled within Big Five territory, this rustic tented camp offers an authentic wilderness escape.

Here, each day unfolds to the rhythm of nature. Buffalo gather at the water’s edge, lions call through the mopane woodlands, and golden sunsets are shared around the fire beneath vast African skies.

Guided Big Five game drives bring you face-to-face with Africa’s most iconic wildlife, while evening sundowners in the bush create the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and soak in the beauty of the setting sun.

Enhancing this immersive experience, our exclusive breakaway includes Big Five Walking Safaris,  relaxed in pace yet rich in discovery.  Perfect for those who enjoy learning about the finer details of the bush.

FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO LIKE WALKING ON THE WILD-SIDE,
WITHOUT GIVING UP THEIR CREATURE COMFORTS.

What to expect

Your day begins with an early morning game drive, as the bush awakens and wildlife is at its most active. Returning to camp, a hearty breakfast awaits, followed by time to slow down during the heat of the day, unwind beside the pool and take in sweeping views of the waterhole, often visited by passing wildlife.

Later, immerse yourself in the bush on a guided walking safari. Led by a professional, armed ranger and experienced tracker, this experience offers a deeper, more intimate connection to the wilderness, revealing the smaller details, tracks, and stories that are often missed from a vehicle. If you prefer, you’re welcome to remain at camp and enjoy the tranquility at your own pace.

On a full day, the group will enjoy both a game drive and a guided bush walk, offering the perfect balance between covering ground in a vehicle and experiencing the bush on foot.

As the sun begins to set, gather for classic safari sundowners in the bush before returning to camp. The evening unfolds with shared stories around the fire, followed by a delicious dinner under the African sky, bringing a perfect close to an unforgettable day in the wild.

Daily walks take place either in the morning or the afternoon, depending on ranger availability, weather conditions, and wildlife activity. These are relaxed, accessible walks covering approximately 4–6 km, carried out at the pace of the group, with frequent stops along the way. All you’ll need is a small daypack and a sense of adventure.
