Langebaan and Cederberg, Captivating Cave Paintings, Fossils and Flowers

 

Day 1 – 2

The Farmhouse Hotel, Langebaan

You will be collected at your hotel in Cape Town after breakfast. Our first stop is Bloubergstrand (Blouberg Beach) to admire the amazing view of Table Mountain. across Table Bay.   

Next stop is !Kwa ttu where you will learn about the fascinating language, culture and lifestyle of the San.

On 24th September 2018, !Khwa ttu opened the only Heritage Centre in the world dedicated to the San.

The Heritage Centre is a vibrant demonstration of San culture and beliefs and a platform for previously untold stories.

The San are among southern Africa’s poorest and most marginalised people Nonetheless, they have remarkable attributes, skills and knowledge.  The San have always lived in southern Africa.  Their ancestry is traceable all the way back to the ‘cradle of the humankind’, the birthplace of us all, in South Africa.  Understanding our shared history reminds us of who we are.

In the afternoon we will visit the  West Coast Fossil Park for a guided tour, viewing interesting fossils like the short-necked giraffe and sabre-tooth tiger which roamed the area millions of years ago.

Check-in, freshen up for cocktails and an evening meal in your hotel.

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve

14h00    Arrive at Bushmans Kloof for an early afternoon check-in at the Manor House, followed by a quick orientation of the lodge. Unpack, relax and freshen up. Contact The Spa or Reception to book any of a variety of Signature Spa and Wellness Therapies (if not pre-booked already).

15h30    Afternoon high tea is served.

16h30    Depart on an evening nature drive in open game viewing vehicles, to discover and inhale the magnificent wilderness and environment. As the sun sets, refresh with complimentary sundowners and snacks at one of the breathtaking lookout locations in the Reserve. Remember to bring a hat, sunscreen, binoculars, sweater or jacket and camera.

18h30    Arrive back at the Lodge and unwind before dinner.

19h00    Enjoy pre-dinner drinks and a tour of our Heritage Centre and a slide illustrated talk and discussion by Bushmans Kloof’s Rock Art Curator Londi Ndzima in the Conference Room.

20h00    Dinner will be served at The Homestead.  

Day 3

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve

08h00    For those who wish to participate, we’ll depart on the guided rock art excursion with  Londi to visit previously excavated sites with a central focus on the prehistory of the area.  A light bush breakfast is served in the Reserve.

OR          Sleep in and enjoy some of the beautiful facilities at the Lodge, from the pools to the flowers and organic gardens, the Heritage Centre, or The Spa and fitness centre. Breakfast is served from 07h30 to 12h00.

11h00    Return to the lodge for a full English breakfast and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

13h00    Screening of the Bushman film The Great Dance in the Homestead lounge.   

15h30    Afternoon high tea will be served. 

16h30    Depart on an optional evening rock art drive where Londi will take you to rock art sites with a central focus on the interpretation and meaning of the art.

18h30    Arrive back at the Lodge and unwind before dinner.

19h30    Meet for pre-dinner drinks, followed by dinner at The Homestead.

Day 4

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve

08h00   Depart on an optional rock art excursion and enjoy a light bush breakfast at a spot which commands wide views over the Reserve and afterwards a visit to Gryskop Net Site nearby.

OR          Sleep in, relax and indulge with a late breakfast and the Lodge facilities available.

 

12h00    Don’t forget to visit our fabulous Trading Post and splurge on some of South Africa’s finest and most unusual jewellery, as well as arts and crafts, before checking-out.

 

 

Day 5

Rooibos Farm Excursion

After breakfast we check out of Bushmans Kloof and proceed towards the town of Clanwilliam where we will experience a tour of a Rooibos Farm. This is the only area in the World where the now-famous tea is grown. 

 

We then drive back to Cape Town via Riebeek Kasteel and stop at one of the lovely wine farms and explore the village.

Upon arrival in Cape Town you will be dropped off at your destination of choice.
