Chacma Bush Camp
A Step Into The Bush
Chacma Bush Camp
Nestled in the lesser-known Maseke Game Reserve, Chacma Bush Camp offers an intimate Big Five safari experience across 8,000 hectares of undulating terrain and rocky outcrops. With a maximum capacity of just 10 guests, the camp features 3 stone thatched chalets, ensuring a personalized and exclusive safari experience. Right in front of the raised patio and pool area lies a waterhole, frequently visited by local elephant herds. Guests can often be found lounging by the pool, watching elephants frolic nearby.
The three chalets are thoughtfully constructed using a combination of stone and natural boulders, providing natural cooling during the summer months. The Klipspringer chalet is perfect for families, accommodating up to 6 people and offering an outdoor shower. The Steenbok chalet, ideal for honeymooners, sleeps 3 people and boasts direct views of the waterhole. The Grysbok chalet features two separate rooms, ideal for 2 adults and 2 children. All chalets offer maximum comfort amidst the rugged wilderness.
The main area includes a charming outdoor boma next to the swimming pool and a dining area with a stunning view of the waterhole. Meals at the camp are a highlight, blending traditional flavors with modern flair. The swimming pool, surrounded by stone decking, overlooks the waterhole where guests can relax on sun loungers or beneath the lapa, observing plains game coming down to drink.
Game drives offer exciting opportunities to explore the reserve, with morning stops for coffee and snacks, and evening drives culminating in a sundowner stop with panoramic views. During downtime, guests can relax on the patio, watching a variety of wildlife gather at the waterhole for a truly immersive safari experience.

General Information
Location
Chacma Bush Camp is perfectly situated in the Maseke Game Reserve, a hidden gem in a private, off-the-beaten-path location teeming with wildlife. Guests can explore untouched landscapes featuring rocky outcrops, diverse vegetation, and the Olifants River. As a Big Five reserve, the area offers exceptional wildlife sightings, and the best part? It’s a relatively undiscovered reserve, meaning fewer people and more wildlife for a truly exclusive safari experience.
Weather
The average annual rainfall is 350mm, with the majority of it occurring during mid-summer (November to February). Rainfall typically comes in the form of thunderstorms, with downpours rarely lasting more than a few hours. The average maximum temperatures range from 24.5°C in July to 31.5°C in January, while the lowest monthly average temperature occurs in July, at around 8.5°C.
Wildlife
During the dry season, the vegetation is sparse, and wildlife tends to congregate around watering holes, making for excellent game viewing. In contrast, the wet season brings dense vegetation, and wildlife becomes more dispersed. Over the course of a 3-night stay, guests can expect to see the Big Five, along with a variety of other species, including giraffe, zebra, warthog, spotted hyena, baboon, hippo, impala, kudu, vervet monkey, waterbuck, wildebeest, bushbaby, mongoose, duiker, and steenbok. You may also encounter rarer species such as wild dog, cheetah, honey badger, porcupine, aardvark, civet, caracal, and serval. For bird enthusiasts, the reserve is home to vultures, owls, bee-eaters, rollers, eagles, bustards, hornbills, starlings, and shrikes, providing abundant opportunities for birdwatching.
Game Drive Vehicles
On game drives, you can get much closer to big game than in a national park, as the animals are typically habituated to the vehicles. They have grown accustomed to the vehicles approaching and recognize that they pose no threat, allowing you to safely get within five to ten meters of these majestic creatures. All game drives are conducted in open 4×4 Toyota Land Cruisers or Land Rovers, ensuring a comfortable and immersive safari experience.
Malaria
The Maseke region is considered a low-risk malaria area, but it’s advisable to consult your local doctor for personalized recommendations. Common anti-malarial medications for the Kruger area include Malarone, Doxycycline, or Melfloquine. Mosquitoes are more common during the wet, warmer season, so it’s recommended to use mosquito repellent and creams as additional preventive measures.
