Africa On Foot Bush Camp
Africa on Foot Bush Camp
Nestled in the heart of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Africa on Foot offers an immersive safari experience in a Big 5 reserve with unfenced access to the Kruger National Park and the renowned Timbavati Nature Reserve. This intimate camp specializes in professionally guided walking safaris, providing guests with a unique and up-close encounter with the African wilderness. Beyond its signature walking safaris, Africa on Foot boasts several standout features: a romantic treehouse, a second swimming pool, and warm, welcoming hospitality.
The camp consists of five thatched chalets (rondavels), elegantly decorated with subtle bushveld tones. Each chalet is designed for comfort, featuring plush bedding and high-quality linen. Two of the chalets are family-friendly, offering en-suite bathrooms and showers, while the remaining three are King/Twin rooms, two of which have outdoor showers for a refreshing bush experience.
For those seeking adventure, the open-air treehouse offers an exhilarating stay, complete with breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness. Meanwhile, guests who prefer a more traditional safari retreat will find the camp’s cozy lodgings perfectly suited to their needs.
The safari-style main area is a social hub where guests gather to share stories of their wildlife encounters over delicious homecooked meals. A chic, safari-inspired bar and a small lounge lead into the dining area, which seamlessly extends into the iconic boma. Evenings by the boma, with a crackling campfire under the stars, are a quintessential part of the safari experience, fostering camaraderie among guests.
To escape the heat, guests can take a dip in one of the two swimming pools—one within the camp and the other near the treehouse. The main pool is particularly special, as elephants often stop by for a drink during the dry winter months.
Each day begins with a leisurely three-hour guided walk through the Klaserie, offering fascinating insights into the ecosystem. In the evening, guests set out in an open-topped game vehicle, searching for predators and witnessing the magic of the African bush under the cover of night.

General Information
Weather
The region receives an average annual rainfall of 350mm, with the majority falling between November and February during mid-summer. Rain typically comes in the form of short-lived thunderstorms, bringing intense downpours that rarely last more than a few hours.
Temperatures vary throughout the year, with average maximums ranging from 24.5°C in July to 31.5°C in January. The coldest month is July, when the average minimum temperature drops to 8.5°C.
Wildlife
During the dry season, sparse vegetation makes wildlife sightings easier, as animals gather around watering holes. In contrast, the wet season brings lush, dense vegetation, causing wildlife to spread out across the reserve.
Over a 2-3 night stay, guests can expect to encounter the Big Five. The area is home to two resident lion prides—the Ross and Giraffe prides—that frequently traverse Africa on Foot’s territory.
Beyond the Big Five, commonly spotted wildlife includes giraffe, zebra, warthog, spotted hyena, baboon, hippo, impala, kudu, vervet monkey, waterbuck, wildebeest, bushbaby, mongoose, duiker, and steenbok. Rarer sightings may include wild dog, cheetah, honey badger, porcupine, aardvark, civet, caracal, and serval.
Bird enthusiasts can look forward to spotting a variety of species, including vultures, owls, bee-eaters, rollers, eagles, bustards, hornbills, starlings, and shrikes.
Game Drive Vehicles
Game drives offer the opportunity to get remarkably close to large wildlife. The animals are generally habituated to the safari vehicles, meaning they recognize them as non-threatening and allow close approaches—often within five to ten meters—while ensuring a safe and respectful experience.
All game drives take place in open 4×4 Toyota Land Cruisers or Land Rovers, designed for optimal viewing and comfort in the bush.
Malaria
The Klaserie region is considered a low-risk malaria area, but it’s always best to consult your doctor for personalized advice. Common antimalarial medications for the Kruger area include Malarone, Doxycycline, and Mefloquine.
Mosquito activity is higher during the warm, wet season. Using mosquito repellent and protective creams is an effective way to prevent bites.
