HORSE-RIDING IS OUR PASSION!

Horse riding along the beaches of the Wild Coast offers some of the most perfect and spectacular horse riding countryside found anywhere in the world.
At the Great Kei River, a pontoon will transport you and your horse into rural Africa where sleepy tribal villages await you. As you ride through undulating hills, comfortable hotels are nestled in coves along the coast, providing perfect stop off points for horse and rider.
Explore the rolling hills and savanna grasslands, home to a kaleidoscope of gaily painted rondavels, that form the heart of the Transkei landscape. You will experience a rainbow of people and a community working together supported by tourism. We have horses to suit all riding categories, they are very fit and obedient.  Rolling hills, deep gorges, and cliff tops that plunge into the ocean ensure that this is not just a beach ride; it’s an adventure!  The beach canters are exhilarating, the environment pristine, and the views stunning. In this rural African wilderness, the local Xhosa people are warm and friendly as we meander through their forgotten villages.

TACK & EQUIPMENT

We use South African hand-made Liversage saddles. Leon Liversage & his son have been making Trail-Riding and Endurance saddles since the early ’90s. The view has always been that saddles should be designed for the comfort of both horse and rider alike. We require all clients to wear a riding hat. We only ride traditional English style.

We definitely encourage you to bring your own well-fitted helmet! Check out our suggested packing list.

There is a weight limit of 95kg.

Please feel free to contact Mark at StoryScape Travel (082 7086296) if you have any questions regarding the Horse Riding.

In principle, ladies will be sharing a room. However, we do have a few single supplement rooms available, only on request. The food is hearty, healthy home-cooked fair.

The horses are at the Country Club, 1.5 km from the Guest Lodge.

• Special dietary requirements can be arranged on request (upon Booking)

RIDING ABILITY

This LadiesWild-Coast Adventure is suitable for all riders with some experience:

NOVICE RIDER = someone who is comfortable in the saddle & enjoys a reliable well-schooled horse. They generally ride at a riding school once or twice a month or like to ride a friend’s horse on the farm. They can trot comfortably and enjoy a nice controlled canter.

INTERMEDIATE RIDER = someone who rides regularly and enjoys a forward going well-schooled horse. They may or may not be a little nervous for the first little bit while they get to know their horse. They can control their horse independently and are confident trotting and in controlled canters.

ADVANCED RIDER = someone who is comfortable on most horses in most situations. They ride regularly and may or may not have their own horse. They have a good seat and gentle hands. They can ride in a light seat and can hold a strong horse in a fast canter

Please contact us should you have any questions.
