Verlorenkloof Lodge, 2:30 hours drive from Johannesburg or 1.5 hours drive from Nelspruit, is the perfect destination for our Mountain Retreat. Nestled between the Highveld and Lowveld, where mountains, rivers, working farms, age-old cultures and the local people, remind us of what inherently makes us tick.
Verlorenkloof Lodge is a perfect destination for our Mountain Retreat Breakaway, nestled between the Highveld and Lowveld. Where mountains, rivers, working farms, cultures and local people remind us of what makes us tick.
You will stay together in a Croft (stone-built House) accommodating 6 – 12 ladies, all bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The Breakaway includes brunch and dinner, the Crofts have full cooking facilities, a dining facility and a spacious lounge with a cosy fireplace at your disposal.
Guests should feel free to bring what-ever food, drinks and sundries for their own consumption.
The rooms are serviced daily and coffee, tea, rusks and milk are provided.
The Crofts are intentionally located out of view from each other offering complete privacy.
Itinerary
Day 1
Your journey to Verlorenkloof Lodge from Johannesburg is an easy three-hour drive along excellent highways.
Arrive in the Beautiful valley of Verlorenkloof where mountains and fresh air awaits you.
A warm welcome by Nita, your hostess. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
Meet Verlorenkloof owners, Heidi and Eric Johnson and your guide Joseph Mothupi. Have a short introduction to activities planned for your breakaway.
Settle in, have a meander and get to know your new surroundings.
Eric Johnson joins us at our croft to tell you Verlorenkloof’s story, past and present. Put on your comfy clothes, put your feet up, and grab a glass of wine.
An organised dinner at your Croft, followed by a fun evening with the girls. Some games and laughter on the cards. Hosted by Nita
Day 2
Wake up to sound of nature in the magnificent Escarpment of Mpumalanga. Have a cup of coffee and rusks before Joseph collects us for an early morning walk ( but not too early)
We get to know our landscape and explore the fauna and flora whilst discovering the beauty of the forest and Waterfall, the Verlorenkloof refuge sites and the corbelled hut.
Freshen up at your croft before heading for the lodge. Brunch will be a leisurely affair followed by whatever you have in mind.
Feel free to do nothing, book a flyfishing lesson or interact with the beautiful Nooitgedaght horses unique to Verlorenkloof.
Later on, we will join Eric on the farm to learn how fertile farming soils grow the nutritious forages and foods that truly nourish us and promote our health and wellbeing…See where the Verlorenkloof Yogurt comes from with a guided visit to the dairy.

Day 3
Another beautiful morning in the valley, also known as the Kwena Basin. Have coffee & rusks in your Croft before being collected.
Guided Walk with Joseph. Explore the archaeological sites and hear the story of the forgotten World of the Koni people, the historical farmyard and the settler graveyards.
Freshen up at your croft before heading for the lodge. Brunch will be a leisurely affair followed by whatever you have in mind.
Feel free to do nothing, book a flyfishing lesson or interact with the beautiful Nooitgedaght horses unique to Verlorenkloof.
Relaxation or an optional arranged activity (must be pre-booked)
Join Marian Cottle of The Seedling Kitchen for an afternoon of fun with rolling, folding and slurping delicious eats made with Rice Paper, Seaweed, Nori and an array of ingredients. Day 4
Today is the last day of our Mountain Retreat Breakaway. We will take an early morning walk or just have a cuppa together.
Meet up at the lodge, settle any outstanding bills and tips, and buy some goodies to take home
We have a fabulous breakfast together, swop numbers and say our goodbyes, Head homewards bound until we meet again.
